Slipping Around - Floyd Tillman

Slipping Around

Written by: Floyd Tillman 1949

Slipping Around Lyrics

Seems we always have to slip around
To be together, Dear
Slipping around
Afraid we might be found

I know I can't forget you
And I've gotta have you near
But we just have to
Slip around and live in constant fear

Oh, you're tied up with someone else
And I am all tied up, too
I know I've made mistakes, Dear
But I'm so in love with you

I hope some day I'll find a way
To bring you back to me
And I won't have to slip around
To have your company

Ghost Riders in the Sky - Stan Jones

(Ghost) Riders in the Sky

Written: Stan Jones June 5, 1948

Ghost Riders in the Sky Lyrics

An old cowpoke went riding out one dark and windy day,
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way,
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw,
A ploughin' thru the ragged skies
And up a cloudy draw.
Yippee-yi-ay, yippee-yi-o,
The ghost herd in the sky.

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves wuz made of steel,
Their horns wuz black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel,
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered thru the sky,
For he saw the riders comin' hard
And he heard their mournful cry.
Yippee-yi-ay, yippee-yi-o,
Ghost riders in the sky.

Their faces gaunt their eyes were blurred and shirts all soaked
with sweat,
They're ridin' hard to atch that herd but they ain't caught them yet
'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky,
On horses snortin' fire
As they ride on, hear their cry.
Yippee-yi-o, yippee-yi-o,
Ghost riders in the sky.

As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name,
"If you want to save your soul from hell a-riding on our range,
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride
A-try'ng to catch the devil's herd
Across these endless skies."
Yippee-yi-ay, yippee-yi-o,
The ghost riders in the sky.

Buttons and Bows - Bob Hope

Buttons and Bows

Music written by: Jay Livingston
Lyrics written by: Ray Evans
From the film "The Paleface" (1948) singer bob hope
(Jay Livingston / Ray Evans - Won Academy Award for "Best Song")

Buttons and Bows Lyrics

A Western ranch is just a branch
Of Nowhere Junction to me
Give me the city, where living’s pretty
And the gals wear finery

East is east and west is west
And the wrong one I have chose
Let’s go where you’ll keep on wearin’
Those frills and flowers and buttons and bows
Rings and things and buttons and bows

Don’t bury me in this prairie
Take me where the cement grows
Let’s move down to some big town
Where they love a gal by the cut of her clothes
And you’ll stand out in buttons and bows

I’ll love you in buckskin
Or skirts that you’ve homespun
But I’ll love you longer, stronger where
Your friends don’t tote a gun

My bones denounce the buckboard bounce
And the cactus hurts my toes
Let’s vamoose where gals keep usin’
Those silks and satins and linen that shows
And you’re all mine in buttons and bows

Gimme Eastern trimmin’ where women are women
In high silk hose and peek-a-boo clothes
And French perfume that rocks the room
And you’re all mine in buttons and bows
Buttons and bows, buttons and bows.
