Walking My Baby Back Home - Johnnie Ray

Walkin' My Baby Back Home
Music written by: Fred E. Ahlert
Lyrics written by: Roy Turk
First release: Walkin' My Baby Back Home by Ed Lloyd & His Band on audio single Walkin' My Baby Back Home (1931)

Walking My Baby Back Home Lyrics

Well, now gee
But it's great after stayin' out late
Walkin' my baby back home
Arm and arm over meadow and farm
Walkin' my baby back home

We go along harmonizing a song
Or I'm reciting a poem
The owls go by and they give me the eye
Walkin' my baby back home

We stop for a while, she gives me a smile
And cuddles her cheek to my chest
We start into pet, and that's when I get
Her powder all over my vest

And just when I try to straighten the tie
She wants to borrow my comb
One kiss and then we continue again
Walkin' my baby back home

Well, gee but it's great after stayin' out late
Walkin' my baby back home
Well, arm and arm over meadow and farm
Walkin' my baby home

Well, we go along singin' a song
I'm recitin' a poem
Well, the owls go by and they give me the eye
Walkin' my baby back home

Blacksmith Blues - Ella Mae Morse

The Blacksmith Blues
(Jack Holmes)

Blacksmith Blues Lyrics

Down in old Kentucky
Where horseshoes are lucky
There's a village smithy standin' under a chestnut tree
Hear the hammer knockin'
See the anvil rockin'
He sings the boogie blues while he's hammerin' on the shoes
See the hot sparks a-flyin'
Like Fourth of July-in'
He's even got the horses cloppin', pop! down the avenue
Folks love the rhythm
The clang-bangin' rhythm
You'll get a lot o' kicks out of the Blacksmith Blues

I'm Yours - Eddie Fisher

I'm Yours
(Robert Mellin)

I'm Yours Lyrics

I'm yours
Heart and soul I am yours
Can't you see it in my eyes
Can't you hear it in my sighs
I'm yours

I'm yours
Every kiss says I'm yours
Take my lips and take my arms
I'm a victim of your charms
I'm yours

My life and my love, dear
Are yours to command
I stand here before you
My heart in my hand

I'm yours
All the world knows I'm yours
And I only hope and pray
That someday I'll hear you say
I'm yours

Till I Waltz Again with You - Teresa Brewer

Till I Waltz Again With You
(Sidney Prosen)

Till I Waltz Again with You Lyrics

Till I waltz again with you
Let no other hold your charms
If my dreams should all come true
You'll be waiting for my arms

Till I kiss you once again
Keep my love locked in your heart
Darling, I'll return and then
We will never have to part

Though it may break your heart and mine
The minute when it's time to go
Remember Dear, each word divine
That meant I love you so

Till I waltz again with you
Just the way we are tonight
I will keep my promise true
For you are my guiding light

Till I waltz again with you
Keep my love locked in your heart
Darling, I'll return and then
We will never have to part

My light, my light
I will keep my promise true
Till I waltz again with you

Guy is a Guy - Doris Day

A Guy is a Guy
(Oscar Brand - adapted from the World War 2 soldiers' song, "A Gob Is A Slob", which in turn was based on the 1719 British song "I Went To the Alehouse (A Knave Is A Knave)")

A Guy is a Guy Lyrics

I walked down the street like a good girl should
He followed me down the street like I knew he would
Because a guy is a guy wherever he may be
So listen and I'll tell you what this fella did to me

I walked to my house like a good girl should
He followed me to my house like I knew he would
Because a guy is a guy wherever he may be
So listen while I tell you what this fella did to me

I never saw the boy before
So nothin' could be sillier
At closer range his face was strange
But his manner was familiar

So I walked up the stairs like a good girl should
He followed me up the stairs like I knew he would
Because a guy is a guy wherever he may be
So listen and I'll tell you what this fella did to me

I stepped to my door like a good girl should
He stopped at my door like I knew he would
Because a guy is a guy wherever he may be
So listen while I tell you what this fella did to me

He asked me for a good-night kiss
I said, "It's still good day"
I would have told him more except
His lips got in the way

So I talked to my ma like a good girl should
And Ma talked to Pa like I knew she would
And they all agreed on a married life for me
The guy is my guy wherever he may be

So I walked down the aisle like a good girl should
He followed me down the aisle like I knew he would
Because a guy is a guy wherever he may be
And now you've heard the story of what someone did to me

And that's what he did to me

High Noon - Tex Ritter

High Noon (Do Not Forsake Me)
Music written by: Dimitri Tiomkin
Lyrics written by: Ned Washington

High Noon Lyrics

Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
On this, our weddin' day
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
Wait, wait along

I do not know what fate awaits me
I only know I must be brave
And I must face a man who hates me
Or lie a coward, a craven coward
Or lie a coward in my grave

Oh, to be torn 'twixt love and duty
S'posin' I lose my fair-haired beauty
Look at that big hand move along
Nearin' high noon

He made a vow while in state prison
Vowed it would be my life or his'n
I'm not afraid of death but oh
What will I do if you leave me?

Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
You made that promise as a bride
Do not forsake me, oh my darlin'
Although you're grievin', don't think of leavin'
Now that I need you by my side

Wait along, wait along
Wait along, wait along

Wish You were Here - Eddie Fisher

Wish You Were Here
From the Broadway musical "Wish You Were Here" (1952)
(Harold Rome)

Wish You were Here Lyrics

They're not making the skies as blue this year
Wish you were here
As blue as they used to when you were near
Wish you were here
And the mornings don't seem as new
Brand-new as they did with you
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Wish you were here

Someone's painting the leaves all wrong this year
Wish you were here
And why did the birds change their song this year
Wish you were here
They're not shining the stars as bright
They've stolen the joy from the night
Wish you were here
Wish you were here
Wish you were here

Kiss of Fire - Georgia Gibbs

Kiss of Fire
(A.G. Vilodo / Lester Allen / Robert Hill)
Adapted from the Argentine tango "El Choclo"

Kiss of Fire Lyrics

I touch your lips and all at once the sparks go flying
Those devil lips that know so well the art of lying
And though I see the danger, still the flame grows higher
I know I must surrender to your kiss of fire

Just like a torch, you set the soul within me burning
I must go on, I'm on this road of no returning
And though it burns me and it turns me into ashes
My whole world crashes without your kiss of fire

I can't resist you, what good is there in trying?
What good is there denying you're all that I desire?

Since first I kissed you my heart was yours completely
If I'm a slave, then it's a slave I want to be
Don't pity me, don't pity me

Give me your lips, the lips you only let me borrow
Love me tonight and let the devil take tomorrow
I know that I must have your kiss although it dooms me
Though it consumes me, your kiss of fire

Slow Poke - Pee Wee King

Slow Poke
It is credited to three writers: Pee Wee King, Redd Stewart, and Chilton Price. Actually Price wrote the song in 1951, as she thought the song described her friend, King, very well. King recorded the song and Stewart did the vocal. Price gave rights to the other two in exchange for publicity, as she felt she knew nothing about the music distribution business. The song did so well commercially that when Price wrote the song "You Belong to Me" the next year, she felt she could do better by ceding partial credit for authorship to King and Stewart than trying to publicize the song herself, so that song as well was credited to King, Stewart, and Price, though Price was the sole author.

Slow Poke Lyrics

You keep me waitin’ till it’s gettin’ aggravatin’,
You’re a slow poke,
I wait n’ worry but you never seem to hurry,
You’re a slow poke,

Time means nothin’ to you, i wait and then,
Late again,
Eight o’clock, nine o’clock,
Quarter to ten,

Why should i linger ev’ry time you snap your finger,
Little slow poke,
Why can’t you hasten when you see the time’s a-wastin’,
You’re a slow poke, dear,

Why should i keep tryin’ to change you,
It’s not the thing to do,
I guess i’ll have to learn
To be a slow poke too!

Half as Much Lyrics

If you loved me half as much as I love you
You wouldn't worry me half as much as you do

You're nice to me when there's no one else around
You only build me up to let me down

Glow Worm - Mills Brothers

Glow-Worm
Adaptation of the 1908 song from the German operetta "Lysistrata"
and the Broadway musical "The Girl Behind the Counter"
(Original words by Lilla Cayley Robinson /
Modern words by Johnny Mercer / Music by Paul Lincke)

Glow Worm Lyrics

Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer
Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer
Lead us lest too far we wander
Love's sweet voice is calling yonder
Shine little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer
Hey, there don't get dimmer, dimmer
Light the path below, above
And lead us on to love!

(lengthy instrumental interlude)

Glow little glow-worm, fly of fire
Glow like an incandescent wire
Glow for the female of the species
Turn on the AC and the DC
This night could use a little brightnin'
Light up you little ol' bug of lightnin'
When you gotta glow, you gotta glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow

Glow little glow-worm, glow and glimmer
Swim through the sea of night, little swimmer
Thou aeronautical boll weevil
Illuminate yon woods primeval
See how the shadows deep and darken
You and your chick should get to sparkin'
I got a gal that I love so
Glow little glow-worm, glow

Glow little glow-worm, turn the key on
You are equipped with taillight neon
You got a cute vest-pocket *Mazda*
Which you can make both slow and *fazda*
I don't know who you took a shine to
Or who you're out to make a sign to
I got a gal that I love so
Glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow
Glow little glow-worm, glow !!
