Indrani Sen is the most recognized singer for Rabindra Sangeet. She has excelled not only in songs of Tagore and Nazrul, but in Bhajans, Geets, Ghazals, Modern Bengali Songs, devotional and many other forms of light classical and modern music.
Indrani Sen is the daughter of Sumitra Sen, one of the eminent exponents of Rabindra Sangeet. Indrani is reigning the music industry since last 40 years in Rabindra Sangeet. Her initial lessons started at home with guidance from her mother. She was trained under the tutelage of the Legend Late Debabrata Biswas, while Late Bibhuti Dutta trained her in classical, and Purabi Dutta guided her in Nazrul Geeti. Late Biman Mukherjee has also been her mentor in a variety of Bengali songs like Tappa, Thumri, Puratani, Agamani and Raag Pradhan.
She stood third in West Bengal in the Humanities Group, came first among the girls, and stood first in Music in the entire West Bengal in H.S. examination. She also obtained first class master's degree in Economics from Jadavpur University and had acquired a Ph.D. degree under the University of Calcutta in Economics in the field of Foreign Trade.
Indrani Sen is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Economics in a leading college of Calcutta, she is in this noble profession since last 33 years. She is now a well sought after academician in the field of higher education. As a regular adjudicator of Ph. D. theses of Rabindra Bharati University and a member of the Core Committee, she is presently assigned to frame the U.G, P.G and M. Phil syllabi of Rabindra Sangeet Department.
