Ames Brothers

Ames Brothers
Band

Brothers Joe, Gene, Vic and Ed Ames were born in Malden, Massachusetts in United States. Their parents were Russian Jewish immigrants from Ukraine. They formed the singing group The Amory Brothers, which would become the Ames Brothers. The three brothers, along with a cousin named Lennie, were traveling to United States Army and Navy bases to entertain troops when they were offered jobs at the Fox and Hounds nightclub in Boston.

Joe rejoins the team. Taking their act to New York City, they got a job with bandleader Art Mooney. In 1949, the brothers briefed Amory in Ames, and became the first artists to record for the newly established Coral Records. Their first hit record, "Rag Mop" in January 1950. In 1956, they starred in their own syndicated TV program, The Ames Brothers Show, sponsored by RC Cola and broadcast on Friday nights.

They disbanded their band in 1963.
